1080/Now

08.02.2025 - 02.03.2025

Fossekleiva Kultursenter, Bergerveien

Artist: Volodymyr Filippov in collaboration with Tigriy Bogatov

Logline: ONCE UPON A TIME, HOUSES WERE BIG is an artistic time capsule documenting the daily devastation and losses caused by the war in Ukraine, creating a space for reflection on memory, resilience and humanism.

Project concept: The 1080/Now project explores the profound human losses and devastation caused by the war, and how this affects both individual and collective memory. At the heart of the project is the production of 1080 etchings, each symbolising one day of the war in Ukraine. Each etching serves as a testimony to the loss of security and memories, but also as an attempt to capture moments in the present and preserve them for the future. This project approaches the war through an artistic lens, transforming traumatic experiences into acts of memory and reflection. The audience is offered a unique opportunity to experience the emotional, physical and symbolic consequences of war through art.

Personal connection: This project is my personal story. As someone who has experienced the war myself, I am faced with the loss and devastation on a daily basis. My home, as well as the homes of friends and neighbours, have been destroyed. These losses are impossible to forget, and through art I endeavour to process these experiences and preserve them in the form of artistic testimonies for future generations. In addition, the project highlights the stories of ordinary people who suffered during the war. The collaboration with 13-year-old Tigriy Bogatov gives the project an intergenerational perspective, where the voice of a young generation expresses hope and renewal.

Impact: The project is intended to be a platform for reflection on human resilience, loss and recovery. Through the art, the audience is invited to reflect on the importance of memory and community in the face of war. Each part of the exhibition - from the etchings to the lectures - creates an emotional and intellectual connection between the audience and the stories from Ukraine.

Conclusion: 1080/Now is a unique project that combines the documentary power of art with a personal story. The aim is to preserve the memory of the destruction and suffering of war and create a space for dialogue that can inspire future generations. Through this project, art symbolises the light that can be found even in the darkest moments.

Cultural Heritage Days at Berger

August 31 - September 8, 2024

Dear Friends,

As we embark on this journey through the Cultural Heritage Days at Berger, I am filled with excitement and anticipation. This event is not just an exploration of our past, but a celebration of the connections that bind us together across time and space. Through the simplicity of the frottage technique, we have the unique opportunity to uncover the hidden textures of our shared heritage, bringing them to life through art.

Art has always been a powerful tool to bridge gaps, tell stories, and create a deeper understanding of the world around us. It transcends borders, languages, and cultures, allowing us to connect on a human level. This workshop is more than just a creative exercise; it is a collective effort to preserve and honor the traces of those who came before us, while inspiring future generations to do the same.

I invite you all to join me in this artistic adventure. Let’s create something meaningful together, something that reflects the rich tapestry of our history and the vibrant community we continue to build. Whether you are an experienced artist or picking up a pencil for the first time, this is a space for everyone. Together, we will discover the beauty in the details and celebrate the stories that make us who we are.

Let’s leave our mark on this journey, one frottage at a time.

Warm regards, Volodymyr Filippov

Join us from August 31 to September 8 at the Cultural Heritage Days in Berger, where we explore historical and cultural connections through abstract art. Ukrainian artist Volodymyr Filippov will guide a creative workshop focused on the frottage technique, a simple yet powerful method of capturing textures. This workshop, suitable for both adults and children, invites participants to hunt for traces of cultural heritage and create their own artworks, which will be showcased in an express exhibition on September 7 and 8. The event is supported by the Cultural Heritage Association and the DNB Sparebank Foundation. The Cultural Memorial Days 2024: Programme

10 - 25.08.2024

Fossekleiva Kultursenter, Bergerveien

From 10 to 25 August, Volodymyr Filippov's studio in Berger, Fossekleiva Kultursenter, will host an exhibition of watercolors, monotypes and drawings created by the artist between 2023 and 2024.

Inspired by the majestic beauty of the Oslofjord, Filippov transforms natural landscapes into abstract works of art. His works display an astonishing combination of color, shape and texture, making the viewer reflect deeply on nature and its changes.

The artist's watercolors convey the dynamics and light effects of water, creating a sense of movement and depth. Using thin and smooth transitional shades, Filippov masterfully renders the play of light and shadow on the surface of the fjord.

Filippov's monotypes and drawings explore more abstract and experimental forms, reflecting his unique perception and interpretation of landscape. These works represent a deep analysis of the interaction between man and nature, highlighting the fragility and grandeur of the world.

Filippov, who lives in his studio in Berger, has found an inexhaustible source of inspiration in the Oslo Fjord. His art is not only depictions of nature, but also a philosophical understanding of its changes, the impact of time and weather on the landscape.

Don't miss the opportunity to visit this unique exhibition and immerse yourself in a world of abstract art inspired by the beauty of the Norwegian fjords. The exhibition is open for visits from August 10 to 25 in Volodymyr Filippov's studio at Bergerveien 2, 3075 Berger, Fossekleiva Kultursenter.

Natural History project

The project aims to explore and celebrate the beauty of the everyday structure of historical Norwegian objects. Through the eyes of contemporary art, the project aims to bridge the gap between past and present, highlighting the special details and stories in simple everyday objects.

The project will present a series of works made using the frottage technique, a method that transfers the texture of objects to paper using a graphite pencil. This technique allows for a detailed exploration of surface textures.

The main concept is to investigate the historical significance of everyday objects through detailed texture studies. By focusing on objects of historical significance in Norwegian culture, the exhibition will provide a unique perspective on how these everyday objects contribute to cultural heritage.

Goals of the Exhibition:

 - Document and present the textures of historical and everyday Norwegian objects.

 - Create a bridge between contemporary artistic practice and traditional Norwegian culture.

 - Invite viewers to interpret the artworks and appreciate the detailed textures and stories they tell.

The exhibition will consist of 365 frottage works, each representing the texture of an object, including:

 - Rocks and stones from the Norwegian coast

 - Surfaces of old boats and piers

 - Cardboard from old pizza and beer packaging

 - Antique crumb cakes and goro irons with beautiful patterns

 - Old trees or wooden objects from historic Norwegian houses

Video installations:

The project will also include video installations where artificial intelligence is used to create change by transforming patterns and textures into a continuously changing experience. This installation will add a dynamic and visual dimension to the exhibition, bringing out the beauty of the transformed textures.

Interactive component:

Each artwork will be accompanied by the sentence "I think this is...", inviting viewers to interpret the textures and artworks personally.

Conclusion:

Natural History is an exhibition that focuses on the beauty and significance of everyday objects from Norwegian history. Utilizing the frottage technique, photopolymer prints and innovative video installations, the exhibition will offer a unique exploration of Norwegian cultural heritage, inviting viewers to see the extraordinary in the ordinary. The project promotes the recognition and preservation of these objects in contemporary art.

Meet the Ukrainian artist Volodymyr Fillippov in the basement of Fossekleiva 2!

After a week as a guest artist, he shows the mini-exhibition "Supernova".

As a rule, you can always observe supernova images only after some time has passed. Figuratively speaking - "after the fact", that is, when the event that led to their creation has already happened a long time ago, and their radiation reached you at the exhibition many months after their creation. It seems to me that this is why it was unclear for a long time what kind of supernova paintings they were.

And in many ways this nature remains unknown even now. Now you have the opportunity to take a few steps closer to new works. I propose to see some of my new paintings, made during 10 days in February at the studio at Fossekleiva cultural centre.

When we meet, we will be able to talk about what leads to such flashes of consciousness. You will immediately be able to understand the nature of the supernova spot on the sheet, although the basic provisions of this phenomenon are already quite clear to you. We can exchange views and at that moment there will be another explosion of supernova energy.

You can meet me on 11 and 12 February from 13:00 to 18:00.

I look forward to meeting you. As well as seeing my graph sheets, tea, biscuits and apples await you.”
